BULLHEAD CITY - New businesses are being attracted to Bullhead City and to Mohave Valley, thanks in part to the Bullhead Regional Economic Development Authority, officials said.

According the Quarterly Activity Report, written by Richard Adams, executive director of the EDA, there are 18 different projects on file, with seven site visits from companies in the process of moving or expanding operations.

Among the new businesses being planned or under construction are a Sam's Club at 600 Highway 95, a Wendy's at Miracle Mile and Highway 95, and a Lowe's at the corner of Highway 95 and Silver Creek Road, Adams said.

One of the companies is an Ohio-based bottling company trying to locate a 40-acre site for a bottling operation, and is seriously considering building the plant on Mojave tribal property, Adams said.

Another bottling company, out of Florida, is also considering building a plant on tribal property, due to its desire to also serve Southern California, Adams said.

Several investors from California have purchased seven acres of land at the Airpark at 7000 Flightline Drive in Kingman and want to build 100,000 square feet of buildings, and plan to sell and lease them, Adams said.

The Arizona Department of Transportation is requiring the construction of a northbound right turn lane at the corner of Highway 95 and Silver Creek Road before construction of the Lowe's can begin in earnest, Adams said.

According to the report, for the third quarter this year, there were 163 new business licenses issued by the city, an increase from 141 for the same quarter last year. The third quarter ended Sept. 30.

Additionally, there were 12 new business invitations and 2,600 hits to the EDA's Web site, a 46 percent increase of last quarter, according to the report.

The amount of taxable sales from local businesses in Bullhead City for the quarter was $282,855,000, an increase from $276,230,000 the same quarter last year.
